Unsnob Wine 4 - Wine blending party

Following our overwhelming response to Unsnob Wine 3, we are now back to air-conditioned venues for our next event. Our venue this time will be at Modesto's in Desa Sri Hartamas.

At this (tasting), we are going to be a bit cheeky and make it a wine blending party.

The idea is this:

1. At least 8 different types of wine (REDs).
2. All attendees will be put into teams.
3. Each team will have a decanter.
4. Each team will be given ONE sample of each wine.
5. Team members will have to come up with an agreed recipe.
6. Mix the wines.
7. Call yourself a winemaker and have lots of fun.

Sounds fun? Come join us.

Place: Modesto's, Desa Sri Hartamas
Time: 4.00pm
Date: Saturday, 12 June 2010
Wine tasting theme: Blending Reds
Price: RM30 per person

As usual, all proceeds from your contribution will be rolled forward to our next meeting.

Go on, be part of the wine revolution! RSVP by sending an email to jqquah@gmail.com or mr.shaunlee@gmail.com.

p.s. Please "like" us to receive updates on future events. I heard Modesto's serves fantastic pizzas.

Unsnob Wine 3 - Wine with roast duck

If you like food and wine, come join us at our next unsnobbing affair! We will be pairing roast duck with two carefully selected wines by our panel tasters at Unsnob Wine.

This unconventional food and wine pairing dinner will be held at Restaurant Damansara Hokkien Mee at Uptown. I should let you know that this place is one hidden gem as the duck is reeeeeeally good.
  • Yes. It is by the roadside.
  • Yes. We are having roast duck with wine.
  • Yes. You need to bring your own wine glass.
Date: Saturday, 8 May 2010
Time: 7pm (sharp! apparently the ducks run out very quickly)
Location: Restaurant Damansara Hokkien Mee @ Uptown
Mingling theme: Sweet vs Dry wines. Pick a side.

So bring your cameras, bring your sense of adventure, and bring lots of courage because it might get pretty nasty! Tell and bring your friends too (but remember to inform us how many first)!

Wines cost RM15 per person (proceeds will be rolled forward to our next meeting). Food is to be paid separately and individually. To ensure enough wine for all, please RSVP by sending an email to mr.shaunlee@gmail.com to confirm attendance.

UnsnobWine 2: Hakka Republic

Howdy peeps, it has been a week since our first wine tasting meetup at Cubes JayaOne and we hope everybody enjoyed the session as much as we did. Thanks to everybody who came and I'm sure you are all looking forward to our next session.

First things first, we have decided to name ourselves (quite shamelessly) Unsnob Wine. Remember, you are part of something revolutionary, or at the very least, fun and educational.
We have set up a facebook page here which will be updated with random infos about wines and wine tasting ideas. Feel free to share your thoughts as well as photos or videos of future events on the page.

We are also happy to announce our second meetup:

Wine Tasting Theme: International White Varieties
Mingling Theme: Most memorable wine experience
Date: Saturday 17th April 2010
Time: 4:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. (On the dot again peeps)
Venue: Hakka Republic, (2nd floor) Menara Hap Seng, 1-3 Jalan P. Ramlee, KL.
Price: RM30 per person

About the price. During our first pot-luck tasting, we realised that many people did not get to try the same wine due to limited supply (1 bottle for 25 pax?!). We therefore would like to try out a new format where we try to balance between the quantity and variety of wine during the tasting. Any proceeds we receive will be rolled over to the following meetup. Fair?

There will be a competition to guess what price is each bottle of wine. The winner will be the person whose guess is the closest to the actual price. He/she will receive another surprise present (Gosh....).

As for the venue, Hakka Republic is one of the most talked about places in KL. It is itself a Wine bar and restaurant combined which serves splendid food. They are also the first in Malaysia to have an enomatic wine dispenser which could keep opened bottles fresh for up to 3 weeks, pretty cool if you ask me.

But to me, the most attractive thing about Hakka is its ability to bring friends and family together over a great meal accompanied by splendid wines. (Trust me, they are quite selective on what wines they would like to sell) A big thank you goes out to Sue who is kind enough to let us use the place.

So guys and girls, please RSVP either by sending an email to mr.shaunlee@gmail.com or through our facebook page here.

Again, don't worry if you can't make it this time as we are hoping to get a wine group going. So drop me an email anyways and I'll keep you posted of future meet-ups!
